i want to buy a digital camera? just wnated to know if megapixels are the criteria while looking out for good cameras? also wanted to know wat are the basic specification i should go for while buying it ?

Look for the features you want, not megapixels. Do you want more zoom than just 3X or 4X optical, Do you want a camera fully automatic or one where you can set shutter speed and aperture. There are point and shoots out there with an image stabilizer for shaky hands. 5 or 6 megapixels is fine, the more megapixels does not always mean a better photo. My daughter's 5 megapixel Fuji takes excellent 8X10 prints. There are 7 megapixel camera that don't do as well. Maybe you want a tiny camera. So certain things you should consider. Depending on the model, excellent point and shoot cameras come from Fuji, Sony, Nikon, and Canon.

What is a digital camera that takes good analog looking pictures?

I'm looking for a digital camera, other than a Leica (like most people I don't have $ 7000 bucks at my disposal) that takes nice film quality photos. I'm turned off and slightly tired of the sterile world of DSLR's and I want a camera that has that rich analog look. I take fine art photography, so I'm not worried about being able to change out lenses and all that. Like I said, essentially a Leica M9 would be ideal, but I can't afford it.

I've been looking into the newer Fujifilm X100 and Olympus OMD-EM5. Are they my best bet?

I appreciate all suggestions and guidance!

I am looking to buy a digital camera. I am willing to spend around $ 300-$ 350. I have to research before I can spend that much so I know exactly what I am buying.

Some of the things I know I should look for are:
- Megapixel (the more the better??)
- Optical or digital zoom
- Screen size.. or type ?

And.. thats it. And I know there is ALOT more that I should be considering.

Good...and for that price you should get image stabilization which helps to reduce blurry pictures. Then decide if you want something real small to go into your purse or something larger that will have it's own case. Your set!
