Minolta MAXXUM 5000i [35-70mm]

Minolta MAXXUM 5000i [35-70mm]
  • SLR
  • supports Minolta's Creative Expansion Cards

The Minolta 5000i (also known as the Maxxum 5000i in North America, the Dynax 5000i in Europe, and the ?-5700i in Japan) is a 35mm single-lens reflex camera belonging to the second generation of bodies in Minolta's autofocus SLR system, fitting between the cheaper 3000i and the more expensive, semi-pro 7000i, and replacing the 5000. The "i" in the names of the new camera range stood for "intelligence". Like the 7000i, the 5000i supported Minolta's Creative Expansion Cards, plug-in electronic modules that added new functionality to the camera.

The 5000i uses Minolta's second generation wide-area autofocus sensor, giving single-shot autofocus including predictive autofocus on a moving subject; continuous AF is available with the optional Sports Action expansion card. The camera's available exposure modes out of the box were Program (using a 2-area evaluative metering system) and Manual (with a center-weighted averaging meter). Aperture priority and shutter priority are available with the optional A/S Mode expansion card.

Unlike the 7000i, the 5000i includes a built-in flash, rigidly mounted on the pentaprism; Minolta claimed that this was "the world's most compact AF SLR camera with built-in flash". The flash fires automatically in Program mode if the camera determines that the shutter speed will be too low to hand-hold, or that the main subject is backlit. The flash can be turned off if not desired and can be manually selected in Manual mode. The X-sync shutter speed is 1/90 second. A proprietary Minolta flash shoe atop the pentaprism allows the use of dedicated Minolta flashes.

Minolta Maxxum 4 Date SLR Camera Kit w/ 28-80mm AF Silver Zoom Lens Reviews

Minolta Maxxum 4 Date SLR Camera Kit w/ 28-80mm AF Silver Zoom Lens

Minolta Maxxum 4 Date SLR Camera Kit w/ 28-80mm AF Silver Zoom Lens
  • Autofocus 35mm SLR with full manual options
  • Three autofocus modes: single-shot, continuous/predictive, and automatic
  • Honeycomb-pattern metering system ensures beautiful photos under the most difficult lighting condition
  • Quartz date back imprints the date or time right onto the photo
  • Built-in flash with red-eye reduction

The Minolta Maxxum 4 is the perfect camera to carry on your next adventure. Whether you are new to photography, or a seasoned amateur, the Maxxum 4 has all the features to create beautiful images and a sophisticated ergonomic design to make photography intuitive and effortless.

Its super-fast autofocus system with a central cross sensor and two vertical side sensors enables you to capture razor-sharp images of fast-moving subjects. The 14-segment honeycomb-pattern metering system ensures beautiful photos under the most difficult lighting conditions. For creative image compositions, the ability to switch between the wide focus area and the local focus areas is available in order to single out an off-center subject without recomposing the shot.

For maximum autofocus control, the Maxxum 4 has three AF modes: single-shot, continuous/predictive, and automatic. Single-shot AF locks focus on stationary subjects. Continuous/predictive AF tracks moving subjects right up to and during the moment of shutter release. Automatic AF determines whether the subject is moving or still, and will automatically select either single-shot or continuous/predictive AF.

The built-in quartz-data back imprints the date or time right onto the photo, making it very useful for cataloging photographs and making photo records of important events. Data imprinting can be turned on or off as desired.

The Maxxum 4 has many advanced features packed into its light, compact body, including:

  • A built-in flash with auto, off, fill-flash, red-eye reduction (which greatly reduces the red-eye effect in portraits), and wireless remote flash control modes
  • Spot metering for measuring the brightness of a small area within a scene
  • Subject Program Selection function that optimizes the camera for specific situations; modes include portrait, landscape, close-up, sports action, and night portrait
  • Continuous film advance enables you to capture action scenes as they unfold, advancing the film at 1.7 frames per second as long as the shutter-release button is held down
  • The viewfinder provides a bright, clear image, important when working in low-light conditions or with slow lenses

Unlike most other compact zoom cameras that use a single infrared beam for autofocusing, the Minolta Vectis 3000 has three precisely aligned LED beams and over 400 focusing steps to sense your subject, and measure the distance between it and the camera. This means that you get crisp, in-focus shots regardless of the lighting situation. Once you have your subject focused, the Vectis 3000 lets you lock the focus by holding the shutter-release button part of the way down, and then reposition your subject anywhere in the viewfinder frame.

The Vectis 3000 also features a newly developed 3x, 22-66mm zoom lens that gives you high image quality and continual focal length selection with just one button. The 22-66mm lens is versatile enough to be used for almost every kind of photography scene, from landscape to group shots to portraits, and even detailed close-ups.

With the easy-to-use APS film system, you no longer have to worry if you've loaded the film correctly. You can also change the film cartridge at any frame. This allows you the freedom to switch back and forth between color and black-and-white film, or to keep your subject matter on separate rolls. The stylish, lightweight Vectis 3000 has a sleek, slim aluminum body that protects the controls by retracting or extending as needed.

Minolta X-600 35mm Film Camera Reviews

Minolta X-600 35mm Film Camera

Minolta X-600 35mm Film Camera
  • Rare collector item
  • X600 was only sold in Japan during 1983 and 1984. Reported only 10,000 units have been manufactured
  • Camera body, zoom lens, case, and manual
  • Minolta's first attempt to provide assisted focus in it's SLR line (thus the SF (Speed Focus) logo on the right of the camera

Items for sale: x-600 camera, 35-70mm zoom lens with the new pin required for x-600, x-600 manual in Japanese, the original Minolta case, OEM lens cap.

History: the X600 was only sold in Japan during 1983 and 1984. Reported only 10,000 units have been manufactured. It brought on a patient right law suit with its assisted focus function and there's why it is short lived. The mis-fortune makes the x-600 to be one of the most sought after SLR by Minolta collector over the world.

Significance: it's Minolta's first attempt to provide assisted focus in it's SLR line (thus the SF (Speed Focus) logo on the right of the camera. Minolta sees the automation in the future of photography and it has made a few major changes in its SLR hardware to achieve this. First is the pattern grid in the mirror, then is the focus screen (has a small rectangle in the center), needless to say the focusing circuit, and adding a new pin in the MD lens line.

Minolta 35-70mm 1:3.5 MD zoom lens. 55mm thread. The zoom ring is extra thick for easy turning and easy to differentiate from the focus ring). Notice the maximum f stop lock tell you this is the third generation of the MD lens). Also notice the feet distance marking in orange (rumor has it this is the change made in the fourth generation of the MD lens which include the extra pin required by the x600).

Technical Data:
35mm single-lens reflex; Full-aperture TTL type; Acute-mat focusing screen with centered focus frame; Aperture priority auto exposure or manual mode; Ev. 4-17; Horizontal-traverse electronically controlled focal-plane shutter; auto 4-1/1000 sec; Slide-up quick-return mirror with SF mirror and sub mirror; ASA/ISO 12 to 3200; Dimensions: 137(w) x 90(h) x 51.6(h) mm; Weight: 490 gr w/o battery; power by two AAA battery; accept all X-700 accessories except motor drive 1. 10 sec. self-timer.

  • Type SLR Manual focus
  • Film Type 35mm
  • Interchangeable lens, Minolta MC MD or simply M type lens mount
  • Manual metering capability
  • 2 LR44 batteries or equivalent powers camera

The Minolta XG-M was a 35mm single-lens reflex camera introduced in 1981 by Minolta of Japan. It was also known as the X-70 on the Japanese market, in which it was not available until 1982. When released, it was the top model in Minolta's XG series of consumer-grade manual focus SLRs, replacing the XG-9. Changes from that model included a metered manual mode (the XG-9's meter was switched off in manual), and a revised body style with rearranged controls. This was also the first camera to use Minolta's new logo, which was used until the 2003 merger into Konica Minolta.

The body style became Minolta's standard manual-focus SLR body, so the XG-M strongly resembles subsequent Minolta cameras.

Body changes from the XG-9 included a new right hand handgrip and stronger internal build allowing the use of a 3.5fps motor drive while the XG bodies were only able to use a 2fps winder.
